Clay Flower Making Weekend

So what happens you ask when you end up making the wrong colored flowers for a client. Well, they end up becoming part of wonderful floral arrangements to sell on my Etsy site! This weekend, I have been focusing on several things. I have several orders I'm working on for wedding clients (bouquets, cake flowers, hair flowers) and some past clients who want larger arrangements. One of my clients asked for coral pink roses and I make them 2 different ways (one with an orange center and one with a more pink center). Well, I accidentally made the orange center with pink outer petals which is the reverse of what the order was. But I love these roses so much I decided to use them in some arrangements since I've been a little light on my Etsy storefront offerings. When I make flowers for my orders many times I have extras and I try to create new arrangements to sell. Anyway, these are a few new items on my Etsy storefront. I also have a lot of clients who want gardenias so I decided to create my Gardenias in Something Pink (original one was in Something Blue). Hopefully if I have more time I'll create more of these in different colored cups to match your decor. :)

Stay tuned because in the coming weeks and months, I'll be doing giveaways of my creations via other websites/blogs. I'll keep you posted as those come up so you can enter to win! :)

I built two more arrangements this morning. One of my repeat Etsy.com clients asked if I would create a custom piece for her bedroom. She has peony envy because her peony garden suffered some kind of plant virus so she has no peonies this summer. Her bedroom is all blues and whites but she wanted a punch of color. At first I thought blue, pink and orange???? But I guess when you look at many fresh flower bouquets you get at the market there are tons of different colors put together. So she specifically requested pink peonies and orange ranunculus and to add whatever blue flower I thought might work. I picked the blue hydrangea, but in a very pale blue and with a hint of green in them. I think it works well. She asked me to put it in a mint julep cup so her little one and her pets don't try to play with them. So I found a 4.5 inch cup that worked really well given the size of the flowers. Granted they aren't the actual size of a real peony, but they are beautiful nonetheless!

The second arrangement was a product of me not being happy with the color of Debi's pink roses that Ed gave to her. I will write more about Debi and Ed after I finish her bouquet (hopefully by this weekend). Their story is truly amazing so stay tuned. Anyway, I had pink roses that were too dark, the extra ranunculus and peony flowers I didn't end up using for the etsy.com client and some of my dendrobium orchids and tuberose buds and flowers that I made extras of..... Well, I decided to build another arrangement. I call it Rainbow Sherbet. No... it's not edible and I'm not making frozen desserts now. The colors all put together make me think of rainbow sherbet - rasberry, orange and lime. Brings back memories as a little girl eating that stuff! Check it out!

Anyway, I better get back to working on flowers again. :)

New Arrangements Posted to Etsy.com
So, in the midst of my dozens of wedding orders I'm trying to wrap up, clay lei awards I'm making for the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce (Northern CA chapter) fundraiser event, I've had time to make more arrangements. These are some of my favorites. The colors are vibrant and very spring influenced. Plus I think the flowers are very popular right now. Who doesn't love ranuculus, hydrangea, orchids, and peonies? Some of my all-time favorites - Tropical Punch, the Green Cymbidiums, Pink Peonies with fuschia coral pink roses are back. Even the oh so popular Spring Flowers Arrangement is back in a smaller configuration!

Visit http://www.dkdesignshawaii.etsy.com/ to order your favorite arrangement!

I'll be away from the storefront from 4-29-5/15 so orders will be processed upon my return. I hope during my time away from the store to have A LOT of new arrangements to post for sale! Business is booming and I'm doing my darndest to keep up with the demand and give my 110% to all my wedding clients and clay flowers students! I think I can qualify for Superwoman! Ha ha... The last 2 nights I've been up until 2 a.m. trying to get all my work done... Boy do I need a vacation even though I'll be working my vacation!

Vintage Elegance - Coral Pink, Purples and Browns!
This particular wedding came to me via Honolulu Wedding Consultants (http://www.honoluluweddingconsultants.com/). The wedding colors are peachy pink, purples and browns. The client didn't have a theme so we used a decorative border and the couple's monogram as the motif. The, menus, drink menu, appetizer menus and the place cards all came out really nice! The pearl bead accents also add a nice elegant touch. Vintage and classy!

This particular wedding is at the beautiful Paul Mitchell Estate on the North Shore of Oahu! I don't actually get to go to these awesome venues, but I live through the pictures after the wedding! :)

The color combination was inspired by one of the bouquets featured in the Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine - winter issue of 2008. IT's a classic bouquet of vintage purple roses, beautiful tuberose, pink tulips and coral peachy pink roses! I can't wait to see the florals for this wedding and how it ties into all the printed wedding details!

12 New Arrangements Listed on www.dkdesignshawaii.etsy.com!
Well, I worked hard all weekend long to post some new arrangements to my http://www.dkdesignshawaii.etsy.com/ storefront! There are now 12 new arrangements on the site for purchase! I hope to post more by next week. Some of the popular arrangements like the pink gerbera and coral pink roses are back, some new versions of the hydrangea arrangement show on the Martha Stewart Show - now in pinks and deeper blues, as well as some tropical arrangements that are really vibrant and colorful!

My favorite is the orange cymbidium and coral pink roses, but I do love the classic look of the blue hydrangeas with the light green tuberose buds in a glass vase and the base of the vase where the flowers attach are covered with a vibrant green flax grass.

Prices for these arrangements posted this morning range from $40-80/each, plus shipping. My arrangements have been selling like crazy so hopefully these 12 arrangements will carry me through at least until next week when I can make more!
