More Valentine's Day Flowers

I've been busy doing all sorts of things and trying to stay focused. I finished two invitation orders this week and have been working on a bunch of things for DK Designs and gofigurette! It never ends.

I worked on some new flowers yesterday evening and they were dry enough to paint and assemble today so I listed them on Etsy. The first one is light pink English roses with dark and light pink pansy blossoms. I spent some time yesterday with some of my instructor students trying out some new things and perfecting upon my clay flower making skills!
The other one is using tulips. With the opportunity to try and see what's inside the tulip and how many petals are on them, it was fun to create this one. Seriously each one is different. Some had 7 petals and some had 8. Depending on how many petals they had they also had the same corresponding number of stamens on the inside. Mother nature is just amazing. I thought the tulips paired nicely with these light pink and orange roses.

I can't believe Valentine's Day is a little over a month away. Visit www.dkdesignshawaii.etsy.com to buy your loved one a beautiful clay flower arrangement!

Fresh Tulips...

I was at the market today and found these super cute little tulips! I decided to buy them so that I can further analyze them since they were inexpensive and more importantly I fell in love with the colors. So fiery and pretty! Come to find out the tulip has 7 petals and not 6. Anyway, before the tulips wilt and die, I wanted to take some photos of them. My third obsession is photography even though I have no idea what I'm doing. I love what I can see through the lens. Anyway, these are some really pretty shots I took this evening of them. Hope to get some more with natural sunlight tomorrow. These just made me super happy and put a smile on my face just enjoying them. You may just be seeing clay tulips soon that look like these! :)

Spring Wedding Invitations

My clients, Heather and David are super sweet. Heather contacted me several months back and then we were able to schedule an appointment and I totally forgot about it. Luckily my husband was home to entertain them while I drove 15 minutes back to the house to meet with them. Not a good first meeting in my eyes (because I forgot), but they were really sweet and we were able to come up with a design they liked. Heather's colors are various shades of pink and orange. So she selected the cardstocks and ribbon she liked best and we tossed around some images of roses and orchids. This is the final result. I have to say this is probably my new favorite color combination and flower design. The rose is so firey and pops with color while the rest of the invitation is a little more subdued.
Lots of invitation orders for 2010 weddings to work on this week....

New Floral Arrangements for Valentine's Day Gifts

I had a chance yesterday to make some flowers that I wanted to use for Valentine's Day listings on my Etsy site. Most times when I have an idea, it evolves into something more. I had intended initially to make something simple, but alas, I realized that the orchids and roses would work well together so I made a slightly larger arrangement. I will still go back and create some lower priced items, but I think these came out beautifully. Full of color! Whether you like oranges and pinks or greens and pinks, there's one of each!
So if you see something you like, you might want to hint to your loved one which arrangement you've been dying to have!

Happy New Year! Welcome 2010

First off let me just wish all of my blog readers new and old, a Happy New Year! Hope you had a fun, wonderful and safe celebration last night. This year has really flown by. Is it me or does each year seem to go quicker and quicker?

In our household, it never fails, someone is always sick. This is the second year in a row that one of us is sick. My husband is just getting better and now my son has it. So we will be missing out on the NY Day celebration with my mom's side of the family. Oh how I miss all the good food that everyone brings. Maybe someone will take pity on us and bring us a couple plates. I've grown up eating some amazing food every New Year's Day, dishes that have been passed down from generations. Plus some new dishes and great eats from those who join the family. My contribution that was started by my mother is cream puffs. After she passed away, I was given the task of making them when she was gone. So I've only missed maybe 1-2 years because we lived in Hawaii. Whether I can come or not, they always expect me to have them there. It's a lot of work, but it's what family does. :)

Anyway, today will be no different than any other day. I will be busy catching up on my work since the 2010 wedding line will be launching with one of my clients and I need to get her the photos and write ups for everything. I'm excited about this product line up for this year. Lots of creative things we're doing. Branching out a little bit from last year.
As you know, I've also started a joint venture with my dear friend Myrna of Petal Chic. We're totally excited about everything we're creating and then it spurs new thoughts and ideas. It truly is skies the limit! We will start launching some of our items on Saturday so be sure to check out www.gofigurette.etsy.com!

Again, Happy New Year and I hope that 2010 brings you all nothing but continued happiness, love, health and prosperity. Here's to the start of another wonderful decade!

Building Up My Etsy Store Again...

I normally don't cater to the holidays (more so because I'm always swamped with wedding orders and can't service both clientele), but I have been realizing since Mother's Day that I need to start creating some new designs for the various holidays throughout the year. I sold a bunch right before Christmas which was awesome and so even though we just barely made it through Christmas, I'm already creating items in my shop for Valentine's Day gifts.
What better way to show your loved one how much you care about them than with a handcrafted, one of a kind clay flower arrangement that will bring them everlasting joy. Think about how much you spend on a dozen red roses on Valentine's Day and instead of spending money on that, what about spending it on a beautiful piece that will bring them many more years of joy and happiness than just 2 weeks of fresh flowers.

I intend to do some red roses I'm sure, but the arrangements offered will just be in a variety of different colors, shades, shapes and sizes!
It feels good to get back into the swing of flowers since it's been a little while since I've touched them. I made all these flowers today and was able to arrange and accent paint and post! Love how quick I can create and make these beautiful works of art!
