"Invitations: www.dkdesignshawaii.com".

My good friend Cheryl of Orchid Isle Weddings and Events (http://www.orchidisleweddings.com/) did a photoshoot today for http://www.destinationweddingstyle.com/. She asked me if I would be willing to design a sample invitaton and menu to go with her English Country Garden meets Waimea... So naturally I agreed to do it. Her photographer/friend, Mimi Gubser took these photos. She did an awesome job! I can't wait to see the new article on the webzine... :) Thanks Cheryl for the opportunity to be a part of this photo shoot and article you're doing for the webzine!
Hilton Waikoloa Village - 2/16/08
Lorela and Ryan are what I call... my "EVERYTHING" couple! They basically ordered everything from me! Let's see if I can remember everything they ordered:
Invitations, favor tags, place cards, table cards, ceremony program fans, fan tags, bridal party and OOT bag packet/inserts, wedding reception programs, bridal party bouquets, centerpieces... The order continues to grow... We're in the home stretch of this order.
This order has definitely been a challenge. This couple is my first official EVERYTHING couple.. The only thing they didn't order was their ceremony decor. :) Even though the order was challenging, it was a GREAT experience because Lorela pushed me to try new things I hadn't really done before. She is all about the bling and the monograms which was fun!
Lorela wanted "hot chocolate" callas, cameo callas, wine callas, bella tang and wine colored orchids... She also wanted to use a WINE theme throughout the wedding reception. Her bouquet is this all hot chocolate calla bouquet that will look stunning against her ivory/champagne wedding dress! She also wanted her attendants to have champagne colored bouquets against their chocolate bridesmaid dresses.
The interesting thing is that Lorela worked at the Hilton and saw my stuff in the wedding atelier office and I guess she thought it would be great to have my things for her wedding! The Hilton Waikoloa Village was my first big wedding atelier to take me on as preferred vendor!
Anyway, these are a few pictures of some of the items I created for their wedding.
So I got this great new software program from Mountain Cow! It's so COOL! Anyway, this is one of my new inivtation designs using this new software tool, the new cardstock line from Envelopments and of course this cool pineapple design by my brother - the true artiste in the family!
I created this design for an upcoming article for http://www.destinationweddingstyle.com/ on Jet Set/Destination wedding invitations. I'm hoping that it will be posted in February! There were 3 or 4 designs that I created for the article...It's kind of funny because when I started my business in 2003, I really didn't think much of doing invitations because I was hooked on the clay flowers, but the invitations are what carries my business which is great! Now I know I had a good business model when I envisioned what DK Designs would be!
You can view more of my designs at www.flickr.com/photos/dkdesigns. I haven't had much time to redo the DK Designs website so this is where I house many of my new creations...
This is another one of the items I made for the Macy's Show. This was another one of my favorites. I think ranunculus flowers are one of my new favorites to make out of ClayCraft by Deco (formally DecoMagic Soft Clay).
The wonderful thing about this craft is it truly is all up to your imagination and your desire to enhance your flower making skills. I never get tired of making flowers (unless of course I'm making over 100 flowers in one day...) in the sense that I can always improve how the flower looks.
I enjoy teaching others as well. If you want to see more about the Deco Clay Craft Academy curriculum, you can check out my website at www.dkdesignshawaii.com/clay_classes.html.
Who would have ever thought that I would do something like this, but I guess it's the next logical step in further expanding my business! 2007 was a great year for DK Designs and I know that 2008 is going to be even better!
This arrangement is one that I made for the Macy's Exhibit I participated in with the Deco Clay Craft Academy as an instructor. This is a piece that I made to sell as this was the first year we could sell our finished products. It was fun making the tulips, peonies, and dahlias! I call this one "Tropical Punch"... I almost wish it didn't sell because I wanted to keep it!
I hope you enjoy this blog... I hope once I get past some of my orders this week I'll be able to add more pictures and commentary... There's lots to show...so stay tuned!
